Iwakura Resort Hotel Gunma getaway 2 hours from Tokyo

Iwakura Resort Hotel is a year round resort in the unspoilt Katashina Highlands of Gunma Prefecture. The road past Katashina village towards Nikko is called the “Japan Romantic Road”, renowned as having the scenery most reminiscent of alpine Germany in Japan, and a favourite for the Japanese Romantic School of poets to include in their works.

Iwakura Resort Hotel

Turning off to Oze-Iwakura takes you to the head of a forested valley where the Iwakura Resort Hotel awaits. In winter it’s a popular ski resort, in other seasons a quiet highland escape great for a stopover driving between Gunma and Nikko.

Oze National Park is just 30 minutes away. You can go hiking and trekking. Many wildflowers can be observed from the end of May to the end of October. In addition, there is a 2,000m high mountain to hike. Or you can also enjoy full-fledged mountain climbing.
Ozegahara, located in the middle of Oze, is one of the largest high-rise wetlands in Japan. The beautiful wetlands are filled with native flowers, and you can enjoy activities including SUP and kayaking on the lakes and rivers.

All season activities can finish with a relaxing onsen after.

Delicious local delicacies are a feature of the hotel cuisine.
